this is a read me file about the TD_SkO_brycecanyon.env file; a custom designed Motocross Madness 2 Nationals Race, This is the second race in the Sketch Out Series.

The Sketch Out Series features designs that I create quickly with an focus on what ever interests me at the moment. These are tracks that have a flair that i do not want to ruin with over thinking and intrusive design rules. I hope you enjoy the series.

Description:

Bryce Canyon is Race 02 of the Sketch Out Series. It was made just for the Dirt Times track design contest. The "Sketch" refers to the fact that the track was put together quickly over a 4 day period using a fast development cycle. The result is a track with a fresh natural flow. It may seem like a easy course but winning on this track requires good concentration and an keen eye for shaving seconds. Don't be afraid to beat through the bushes, the wide spline encourages riders who can find the true inside line. Watch out for the cactus. My old-slow-dudes best time is a 2:09 with full graphics, what are you gonna do?
This layout highlights my recent fascination with vegetation Placement mapping and the use of precise veggie placement as a design element. I use a double size 2560x2560 .bmp for placement and really enjoy placing the "octillo" and "tumbleweed" on the track so you can thrash thru while trying to hold a line. Someday I would like to add shadows for all the vege and objects... I guess it wouldn't be a sketch anymore :-)
Thanks to MCM_Nut and AMA_Dirttwister at Twisted DIRT for the great utilities. They are huge time savers and are the only reason I can attempt to build a "sketch style" track. Thanks also to all the designers out there who are raising the quality standards and making so many fantastic track layouts. This season's tracks have been a real pleasure to ride and that provides a huge inspiration when I sit down to make a new one.
I hope you enjoy riding and racing Bryce Canyon

thanks,
Mike McCue

UPDATE:

The Dirt times results placed Bryce Canyon 12th (13th?). It was a great contest with a lot of fantastic tracks. I have downlaoded them all and ride them with my ridin buds. Thanks to all the other track designers that contributed tracks to the collection.
The official reviews of Bryce Canyon were not very flattering and thats cool. It is clear they find the track boring and long. (BTW: We are getting 1:50 laps thats about the median for the contest entries :-).

I do want to say that I think the track has a lot to offer in terms of racing. If you really get up to speed on this course and start cutting the corners thru the underbrush you may find its really a wild ride. The track seems real plain and simple and that is what I think is cool about this layout. I had been riding Scumbikers Smoke and Mirrors quite a bit. That course is really mellow looking until you try to make speed then WOW you are bouncing off the walls. I am a little surprised the judges at DT are so easily fooled by the deception.

I hope you will give this track a hard workout before you decide what you think.

That said: Thanks to Dirt Times crew for all the work they out into the site and the contest.

UPDATE:

well it looks like Dirt Times may be off line and the Contest version of track is unavailable. Thanks again to Dirt Times for all the hard work.

I have updated a few details by adding some trees and tweaking the texture and spline on the Bryce Canyon track. This new version is available thru twisteddirt.com and harmoniccycle.com

enjoy,
mike
